Cucumbers are usually direct seeded into the garden once the threat of frost has passed. In south Alabama, I’d suggest sowing towards the end of March or early April.
You can start them indoors but they are prone to transplant shock and aren’t the best candidates for transplanting. Although it’s definitely possible.
