The Smell of Sawdust
Since moving to the farm, I have been spending alot of my “free” time working outside and inside. One of the projects I am working on is a book shelf for our library room. Wheeler, who will turn 5 in November, likes to “work” with me. Whether it is outside clearing trees or on the porch building a book shelf, he enjoys it.
I liked working with my dad too. For a little while anyway. I would enjoy his company, interested in the work, but after an hour or so, I was ready for something else. Wheeler is similar, however his window of interest is closer to 20 minutes.
Something that will always remind me of my dad is the sweet smell of fresh sawdust. I like to think that I am passing this along to my children as well.
Kudzu
I never knew Kudzu blossoms are so beautiful. I also never knew how great they smell. Kudzu is blossoming now in N Alabama. If you get a chance, give it a whiff. The plant has a terrible reputation, and rightly so. However, I don’t think it is going anywhere, so I propose we acknowledge and enjoy it’s better qualities. ‘Tis the season for that.
Bounty
Have you visited your local farmer’s market lately? There is a bounty at the one we like to frequent. If you haven’t been out to one lately, I encourage you to go and support your local farmers. I’m sure they have a lot of beautiful produce they’d love to sell you.
Resources
I’ve wanted to get a resource page up for a while. This one is a start. Over time, Morgan and I will add to it. Its permanent home will be on the navigation bar.
