๐ฝ๏ธ๐๐ป ERL: Morgan's first letter!
juice, einkorn, God's within-ness, and being with yourself.
Hey everybody a little change up this week. Its Morgan. I have not put my hand to a newsletter yet and truthfully Taylor has a lot going on and I feel well enough to write so it seemed like a good week to give it a go!ย
๐ฅ Eating
For those of you who don't know, in February after having lots of seemingly strange and unrelated symptoms going on in my body, I got diagnosed with Hashimotos (Thyroid Autoimmune). I plan on sharing more of this journey as it continues to unfold, but for now, I will just say this has significantly changed what I have been eating! I wonโt go into all the things I have cut out, but I will share some of my favorite things that have been nourishing and fueling my body this month.ย
Juice. We got a juicer and I have been loving my juice in the morning and afternoon.ย In the morning I make a blend of celery, cucumber, apple, and lemon juices.ย ย In the afternoon Iโve been drinking a blend of carrot, apple, and ginger juices. I also like to blend beet, apple, ginger, limes and really anything extra we have around to drink on throughout the day.
Bread. I have cut gluten (something I never thought was possible), but I have been making bread and pizza crust with Einkorn flour and have really, really been enjoying this treat. Einkorn is the only wheat that has not been hybridized, has a very low gluten index, and is full of protein. I like Joviel all purpose Einkorn flour and get it from Azure Standard. If you have never used Azure you should check it out here and see if there is a drop in your area. You can use our referral code TaylorMyers1.ย Here is the sourdough pizza crust recipe I used.
Beef. Lots of beef. We did a cow share last year and are on our final month before the next one comes in. So we are eating beef with just about every meal!
๐ Reading
I have not been doing much reading, sadly, but I seem to always have a Madeleine LโEngle book close by. Right now, I have A Stone For a Pillow in my bag to read a bit here and a bit there. These lines stood out to me today:
โ The idea of God everywhere is not new, but God has been pushed Out There, without, for so long, that we forget the within-ness, and the marvel that God can come and reveal wonder in the most ordinary things. One early summer day I came home from trying to clip back the weed alders which were blocking the view from the star-watching rock, and met a young friend, also returning to the house, carrying his shirt which was stained red with the miracle of tiny, luscious wild strawberries, and which remained pinkly patterned after numerous launderings. This uncovenanted bounty of the field was worth one shirt, and a reminder of the marvellousness of the ordinary loveliness on the hillside by Crosswicks.โ
๐ป Listening
I am learning to listen to my body. To rest when Iโm tired and eat when I'm hungry. To really notice when I feel off and to pay attention to what may have been the cause of the โoffnessโ. This sounds so simple, but with little ones who constantly need me throughout the day it can be difficult to hear what my body needs and to then actually follow through with caring for myself.ย
Side note (but on the same sort of topic) : Taylor and I had a conversation earlier this week about creating space to โbe with yourselfโ. You may be thinking โ I don't have time to be with myself.โ Which could be the caseโฆbut I think the truth is, we are too afraid of what will come up if we take the time to be with ourselves.ย
What does that even mean? โbe with yourself.โ
For Taylor this means that while driving home from work, instead of turning on a podcast or catching up on news, he intentionally tries to be present in his body and less in his mind. When thoughts come to the surface, begging for attention, he notices them, and lets them pass by, unresolved. ย
For me it has looked like winding down at night in the bathtub. Instead of grabbing a book or scrolling Pinterest, I choose to just be.ย
I am constantly taking in images, information, and ideas but seldom give myself the time to digest what it is that I am consuming. To me, being with myself gives time for thoughts and feelings to settle.ย
